Fanatical WW

Your Fitbit tracker may be a sturdy, reliable device most of the time, but there's still the odd occasion where you may find yourself with no option but to reset it.

Whether it's a Charge, Alta, Versa or Ionic, resetting different Fitbits all involve slightly different steps. And if your device is failing to respond, won't track you or won't sync, it's likely that you'll have to kick in a factory reset to try get things moving again.

Want to learn how to do it? Well, below we've detailed exactly how to reset a Fitbit, so read on for everything you need know.

How to reset a Fitbit Charge 2 or Charge 3

How to reset your Fitbit

If you're having trouble syncing, tracking or connecting to a Fitbit Charge 2 or Charge 3, it's time to restart your tracker - just be aware that any un-synced data will be lost in the hard reset.

To do so from the tracker itself, swipe from the clock face to Settings and tap Reboot Device. However, if the tracker's screen isn't responding, you're going to need to follow the instructions below:

  • Plug the charging cable into a USB port and connect the other end of the port to the back of the tracker, making sure the pins on the cable are securely locked.
  • Make sure the button on your tracker is in line with the button opening on the charging cable. You’ll know the connection is secure when the tracker vibrates and you see a battery icon pop up on the tracker's display.
  • Hold the button to restart your tracker:
    • For Charge 2, press and hold the button on your tracker for 4 seconds. When you see the Fitbit logo and the tracker vibrates, the tracker has restarted.
    • For Charge 3, press and hold the button on your tracker for 8 seconds. Release the button. When you see a smile icon and the tracker vibrates, the tracker has restarted.
  • Once it has restarted, simply unplug the tracker from the charging cable and begin the setup process within the Fitbit app.

All Generations Love It. While some critics view virtual reality as something only young people like, it turns out that even previous generations largely approve of the technology. Currently, millennials are the generation most likely to embrace virtual reality, but apparently older generations are also getting on the bandwagon. One study found that a majority of baby boomers have a favorable perspective of virtual reality. A big reason behind the popularity is the versatility of many virtual reality systems.

How to reset a Fitbit Alta or Alta HR

How to reset your Fitbit

While the process is slightly different between the Fitbit Charge devices, things are the same whether you're an Alta or Alta HR owner. However, unfortunately, you can't perform a factory reset from the device itself. Instead, follow the instructions below if you need to reset your device:

  1. Plug the charging cable into a USB port and connect the other end of the port to the back of the tracker, making sure the pins on the cable are securely locked.
  2. You’ll know the connection is secure when the tracker vibrates and you see a battery icon on the tracker's display. The tracker will then begin charging.
  3. Press the button on your charging cable three times, briefly pausing between presses. When you see the Fitbit logo and the tracker vibrates, this means the tracker has restarted.
  4. Once done, simply unplug the tracker from the charging cable and begin the setup process within the Fitbit app.
