Happy Holidays! The BigBox team has been working super hard on POPULATION: ONE.
We’ve been making great progress!
POPULATION: ONE is going to be unlike anything anyone has ever seen before in VR.
We’re creating a high-action, multiplayer shooter where you climb, fly, and build in a giant, open world. You can FIGHT ANYWHERE on the map.The game will crossplay on Quest and PC VR too!
Here’s a look at our progress on Quest:
I know a lot of you are wondering when you’ll be able to play POPULATION: ONE.
Where Oculus’ VR games go from here
We want to give you an update on our progress and our timeframe.
POPULATION: ONE will be launching in 2020.
We don’t have an official date yet, just because there are always surprises that come up and we don’t want to announce a date until we are 100% sure.
In the meantime, we’re adding a lot of fun things and taking this game to the next level.
We’re continuing to build a high quality environment and optimizing it like crazy. POPULATION: ONE will run faster and smoother than ever before on both Quest and PC headsets.
Nintendo’s Virtual Boy 3D Gaming Console. Similar to SEGA, Nintendo also had the vision of putting out a Virtual Reality headset for the gaming market. They even went as far as putting a VR headset on the market, but unfortunately it didn’t make it far. Released in the mid 1990s and known as the Virtual Boy, the device was a 3D gaming console that had a 3D viewing system rigged out to look like virtual reality. While it was way cheaper than the other options on the market at the time, the device also didn’t manage to truly spark the VR movement, simply because it lacked head-tracking and quality graphics and only offered stereoscopic 3D display.
We’re also keeping a close eye on gameplay, and making sure every part of our map has the potential for super interesting moments. Just one example of this is the new hay bale maze that provides cover in our upgraded Farm.
The hay bale mazes are crazy fun for cat and mouse shot-gun fights. They’ve become our favorite spot to play in during internal playtests! Since you can climb anything in the world, the hay bales can be used for really creative cover like this:
You’ve been super awesome through this whole process, and we’re really grateful for that.
Hope you all have an amazing end of year!
We’ll catch you in the new year with more updates and opportunities to join the private beta playtests.
